In Rappahannock County, no less than any other place where people live together, we each need to more fully recognize the destructive forces which are ever prominent in our personal relationships. This means that these forces operate in any relationship you have, whether in peer groups; in boy-girl relations; in school; in families; in community. Wherever there are two or more people together, there are the equal number of independent wills, each seeking to bring about his or her own satisfactions. When one is not aware of these implications, or is insensitive to the others needs and ‘personhood’, there is hurt and estrangement. Indifference seems to be as destructive in personal relations a s conflict, though perhaps less ‘flamable*. In recognition of our need to be more aware of how these destructive forces operate in our lives and families, two Rappahannock men are undertaking to help. Dr. Franklyn Melton of Sperryville, and the Rev. Charles Glaenzer, of Washington, are offering their counseling services to the people of Rappahannock who seek help with problems of living together: relating to Home, Family, Marriage, Alcoholism or special areas of concern.
This service will be available one day each week, Wednesday. They will occupy an office in the Snead Bldg, in Washington, Va., and appointments can be arranged for by calling 675-3516. This is a gratuitous service, offered by these individuals who have designated their effort as: Rappahannock Family and Social Relations Service, and is not affiliated with any County Function, or agency.
