The 1964 spring pig crop was down 8 per cent from the previous spring, and .Indications are for a 7 per cent decline in the fall pig crop. However, on August l, frozen pork supplies were estimated at 51 per cent above the five year average. Continuing com petition is expected from an increased supply of broilers and heavy supplies of beef. Hog prices in midwestern markets up last week. Gains of $l.25-$1.50 were recorded in most markets. Chicago, St. Louis and Indianpolls markets finished the week at mostly $18.00-$18.75. Baltimore prices were $17.50-$18.25. Virginia markets had not adjusted to the higher prices by the end of the week. Richmond prices of $17.25-$ 18.00 were 25 cents* higher than the preceding week, and the $17.50 average price at Virginia aucitions was slightly lower than irhe nrftvimm week.
