Miss Gwen Hockman of New York City received her Master of Arts degree in Education from Columbia University on August 14. She was awarded her Bachelor of Arts degree from Madison College and has taught at Barnard College in Mew York for the past three years. She has now accepted a teaching position at C. W. Post Long Island University. Miss Hockman is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Luther Partlow and the great-niece of Mrs. Charles T. Bruce of Washington. Va.

Guests Wednesday and Thurs* day last week of Col. and Mrs. John Carney were Mrs. Carney’s brother and sister-inlaw Mr. and Mrs. Fred Williams of Vienna. Their guests during the week-end included Mr. and Mrs. William Roberts and two sons of Bethesda, Md. and Mrs. Adair Williams and two daughters of Richmond. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Johnson, Joanne and Tommy Johnson and Mrs. Tom Coates left Thursday to visit Dr. and Mrs. James H. Johnson in Lakeland, Florida. Miss Olive Soutter left Thursday for her home in Fredericksburg after visiting Miss Lillie and Miss Nellie Johnson.

Guests last week of Mr. and Mrs. Lacy Orange were Mrs. J. W. Conners, Mr. and Mrs. Gilmore Orange and son Tommy of Takoma Park, Md. and Mrs. Mary Martin of Fincastle.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jenkins and family of Fairfax are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Jenkins. Miss Mary Catherine Burgess has returned to her home in Richmond after visiting her uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Johnson. The Rev. and Mrs. Park Dickerson, the Rev. Jerry Holloway and Mrs. Eartha Hawkins were dinner guests Tuesday of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Butler. The Rev. and Mrs. B. G. Titchenell and family are visiting Mrs. Titchenell's parents in West Virginia. Guests over the week-end of Mr. and Mrs. Cary Thornhill were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thornhill and family of Vienna, Mr. and Mrs. Winfrey Thornhill and family of Manassas, Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Bunn of Washington, D. C., Mrs. Elma Manuel and daughters of Winchester. Miss Vickie Manuel is spending this week with her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Thornhill. Miss Myrtle Settle of Boston is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Settle. Other guests of the Settles on Friday were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Grigsby of New Jersey.
