Judge T. Carlyle Lea of Washington, Va., was guest speaker at ceremonies Thursday, September 17, marking the 100th anniversary of the opening of Augusta Military Academy at Fort Defiance, Va. Judge Lea attended the Academy for three years and was graduated in 1955. In addition to his duties as Judge of County Court, he was recently elected President of the Rappahannock Junior Chamber of Commerce and for several years has served as Scoutmaster for Washington Troop #64, Boy Scouts of America. In addressing the group Judge Lea recalled incidences of his undergraduate years, some humorous, some not so humorous, such as having experienced homesickness and doing duty for misdemeanors. He also pointed out the inestimable value of the sense of loyalty to ones fellow students gained at a school such as A. M.A. with its lasting benefits through the years. Citing instances Judge Lea spoke of A fellow alumnus from Cuba who has been attempting to get out of that troubled country for about three years, and has asked his A.M.A. classmates to come to his aid.
