Northern Virginia Power (Jo Luray, Virginia Gentlemen: f Rappahannock County, Virginia is noted for its Beauty and tourists come from all sections of the country to enjoy this beauty. The State of Virginia and its people take pride in our state and expend large sums yearly to advertise our recreation areas, along with programs to “Keep Virginia Green." We, as Garden Clubmenv bers, are interested in these programs and feel that your company too has an interest in this. The recent spraying of chemicals from the air by helicopter has left an unsightly condition along some of our highways and back roads, and aside from this, we do not believe this method can be safely used without a drift beyond the right-of-way injuring flowers and shrubs. The dead and dying trees will be unsightly for a long time unless cut as formerly. It is our hope that this method of clearing power lines will be discontinued and we register our disapproval of this recent method.

You heifer owners better get going in getting them vaccinated against Brucellosis (Bang's disease). Remember the job should be done before they are past 8 months of age. This county has been leading all Virginia counties in past years in getting the job done. Now is no time to get slack. You now have a practicing veterinarian located here... Dr. W. L. The August livestock Health Bulletin shows but 359 head had been vaccinated in Rappahannock through July. Thi* represents but 15.6% of out* heifer population. Also instead q£ leading the .state our rank it mty-mmi.tverxp.wo.tQwi ties are ahead of us. Youhav^ but three and a half months to reach our 100% goal. The next county-wide Bang’s vaccination will be in November, however don’t necessarily wait until then; it’s much more important that you get the job done at the correct age: 4 to 8 months.
Acceptance of calves (subject to grader’s decision) for our Angus Feeder Calf Sale has increased to 1337 head. Be on the alert for delivery schedule. |
