The preliminary summary ofl last fall’s feeder calf sales received last week from K. C.i Williamson, Extension Livestock Specialist of V. P. I., shows calves soldattheRappa^ hannock Angus Feeder Calf Sale to have fetched the second highest price out of 36 such sales held in Virginia. Our sale averaged $23.28 per hundredweight while the first place Winchester sale averaged $23.59. Both sales were close in Quality of offerings Winchester - 40% Fancy & Choice, Rappahannock 39%. The Winchester Shorthorn sale lead all others in quality with 54% grading F & C! Abin^ don had the second highest1 quality offering with 49% grading Fancy & Choice. Generally, heavier calves mean higher prices per head or a greater gross per cow. Would like to see our calves weigh a bit more, at least up to the state average or a shade better. Our calves were 7 pounds below the state average of 449 lbs. on a total of 37,521 head. You consignors micrhr wpII
