Highway Hearing
Set For Luray
Richmond—A public hearing • on the proposed relocation of Route 211 as a bypass of Luray will be held at 10 a.m. August 12 in the Luray fire hall, the State Highway De p a r t m e nt said today. ,As proposed, the project would extend 4.7 miles—from the west corporate limits to a point 1.2 miles beyond the east corporate limits, and swinging north of the existing Route 211
The bypass would be part of the arterial highway system approved by the 1964 General Assembly. No funds are currently available for the Luray project, but the Highway Department anticipates that money will be allocated as soon as possible, commensurate with ot-her needs on the arterial system in the Staunton highway district.
The hearing is necessary at this time in order that the Department’s engineers may proceed with plans, to 1ielp protect needed rights-of-way and to put the Department in position to secure the rightof-way and construct the bypass promptly when funds be come available.
