Enters WAC College Junior Program
Miss Nancy Latham of Amissville is participating in the College Junior Program of the Woman’s Army Corp and is stationed at Fort McClellan, Ala. This four-week program is for college students who have completed their junior year. Miss Latham was inducted into the corps Friday in Richmond and left by plane from Byrd Field, Richmondon Sunday. She will also spend a few days at Fort Benning, Ga., returning home August 6. She was accompanied to the airport by her mother, Mrs. Sarah Latham and Susan Latham.
Chester Gap Firemen
Gross $4,200
Chester Gap firemen and ladies auxiliary grossed a total of $4,200 at the annual carnival held June 30-July 3, and announce the winners of prizes as follows: transistor radio given away Friday night, Joyce Fadely of Front Royal; grand prize awarded Saturday night, $500, Billy Sealock, Rt. 522, Front Royal; other cash prizes, $150, Ronnie Morris, Chester Gap; $100, Roger Williams, Front Royal; $50, Amos Manuel, Front Royal. Miss Alice Jenkins was crowned queen of the festivities on Friday night and runners-up were Miss Mary Helen Williams, Miss Carol Lambert and Miss Peggy Boyd, in that order. The firemen and citizens of the Chester Gap community expressed their appreciation to all who attended the carnival, worked on preparations or at the stands, made contributions or helped in any manner to make the fund raising event a success.
