Hogs The current bonanza in hog prices has apparently reached its seasonal peak. Some weaknesses in prices are expected but not as much as usually experienced during late summer because of several favorable factors. Hogs coming to market during the next few weeks— based on farrowings four to six months earlier—are indicated to be about 10 per cent less than during the same time last year. Cold storage holdings of pork on July 1 were reported at 47 per cent below a year earlier and 23 per cent below the five year average. Demand for pork has remained good reflecting a continuing strong economy, but evidences are appearing here and there of some consumer resistance to high retail prices.
