William and his wife are both over 65 but he has never been covered under social security or railroad retirement. Nevertheless, both hospital and medical care insurance are also available to this couple because work credit under social security is not required for anyone who will be 65 before 1968. However, to be eligible for this protection, William and his wife will need to call at their nearest social security office to file the necessary application. The social security people will give all applicants full information regarding both programs. Anyone reaching age 65 before January 1, 1966, may take this action any time this year.
