Just a reminder that the Rappahannock News will take its annual Christmas vacation next week. There will be no publication on Thursday, December 30. The News office will be closed from Friday, December 24 through Jan uary 2, 1966, opening again January 3. My girls will scoff at this announcement. They say, “We know Mom can’t stay away from the office that long. Guess they’re right, for I will be in and out, checking the mail and closing out the books for the year. Contact me if there is a story to be run down or a picture to be taken that is newsy.
We were greatly pertuibed when we heard that our old friend Sgt. John Cline was a casualty in Vietnam, struck by a 25 pound mortar, but as the story unfolded, our con1 cern turned to mirth. It seems that an enemy shell which our army had captured and defused was placed on a filing cabinet in the office of the Ser 'geant. IDear Editor, \ Several weeks ago I addressed a letter to you in which I I spoke in favor of house trailjers. However, I do not recall 'saying that people who live ini this type of home are any !better than anyone else. In Jmany cases young couples buy | a house trailer for a home until they can afford to build la house. There are numerous couples in the county who have done this. Trailers are not any more mobil than houses that are transported along thehiglv

Even the dirty smoke from our elementary schools contaminate the air we breathe! The “next" generation of our Iq^qnf^.iS already leaving for jobs Sise w he r e--would you have us live elsewhere also? People who have lived in Rappahannock all their lives do not know all about the county. Speaking for myself, I did not know we had a designated place for dumping. Let’s have a zoning meeting and get the county cleaned up--' if that is what will do it. Wei want people of all income brackets to be able to live in our beautiful county--not just those who have earned enough to retire and live in mansions.
