Calf Killed by Bear
At Nethers Mill
A large calf was attacked and killed by a bear last Wednesday at the farm of Paul Nicholson at Nethers Mills. The bear crashed through a closed door of the barn, killed *the calf and carried it from the building before tearing it open and eating the entrails. According to Madison County Sheriff Carroll Lillard, who investigated the incident, the lower part of the barn door was crashed in and large quan< tities of blood were found in the barn. The carcass of the calf was discovered about 200 yards from the barn. Tracks of the bear were visible, and evidence indicated that the calf was partially dragged and carried to the field where it was discovered, said Mr. Lillard. The calf weighed around 180 pounds.
