At the opening ceremonies of Boothe’s State Headquarters in Richmond on Monday, Mrs. Davis said to an overflowing crowd that “BOOTHE’S leadership in the State Senate fight to keep Virginia Schools open during the massive resistance period from 1954 to 1959, demonstrated his leadership ability, his outstanding statesmanship and his concern for the people of Virginia. “Harry Byrd, Jr., led the State Senate fight to close public schools, but Little Harry ,. failed by one vote. - d Mrs. Davis also said, “on behalf of the High School students graduating in Virginia this year, I am indeed grateful to Mr. Boothe that their education was not stopped in the 5th grade.*
