Mrs. Lewis John Turner of Washington, Va., announces the engagement of her daughter, Carolyn Gates, toWilliam Scott Dewhirst, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold H. Dewhirst of Hampton, Virginia. Miss Turner, the daughter of the late Lewis J. Turner, was graduated from Lynchburg College, and is now a member of the faculty of the public schools in Henrico County, Virginia. Mr. Dewhirst was graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and is now employed as Director of Public Utilities, Henrico County. Mr. Dewhirst is a Major in the Virginia Air National Guard serving with the 107th Air Defense Brigade as Engineer Special Staff Officer, and is a member of the West End Jaycees of Richmond. An August wedding is planned.
