The Home Demonstration Club of Chester Gap presenti ed the fire company there with a check in the amount of $100 Saturday evening at a dinner. Bradley Williams, president of Chester Gap Fire Department, accepted the gift from Mrs. Maybelle Gilkey, president of the H.D. Club. Chester Gap Fire Company was organized March 12, 1960 and has progressed rapidly , in the ensuing years. Initial sponsor of the company was . the Chester Gap Citizens As. sociation, and the late Merritt ' A. Greeley was its first presi ’ dent with Herman Williams as fire chief. ( The first equipment for the department was purchased ' from Washington, Va. fire con party, and bias since been re' placed with a letter model fire truck. They also have ob. tained an ambulance. The equipment was housed in Sherman Williams barn until the present building was constructed. In the new building the equipment is housed downstairs and a large hall, complete with kitchen and rest rooms, for civic meetingsand suppers, takes the upstairs. A four-day carnival is held each year on the weekend * closest to July 4th to raise funds for the operations and maintenance of the department.
At present Bradley Williams is president of the group and Joe Williams is fire chief.
