Cold Damage to Apple* Not Conclusive
Damage done to local fruit crops by the recent cold weather is not yet conclusive, according to some orchardists. Estimates range from 15 tc 40 percent damage. Orchards located in the higher elevations were apJ parently free of damage, but in lower lands severe damage occurred to the crop which was already considered a short crop.
Appointed Registrar
Mrs. Mary Cleverley of Flint Hill has been appointed voting registrar for Wakefield District. She will be available at the Village Shop on Main Street from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m
William Bywaters Injured in Fall
William F. Bywaters of View town sustained severe lacerations of his head in a fall at his home Saturday. He was on a ladder cleaning out the porch guttering when the ladder slipped, pitching him to the ground His head struck a concrete step or walk and he was taken to Culpeper Memorial Hospital where he remained until Monday. He is recuperating at his home.
Arthur Cheatham Wins Art Award
Arthur S. (Bucksie) Cheatham, son of Mrs. R. L. Cheatham of Mountain Green, Washington, Va. won a blue ribbon For his water color landscape “Blue Mountain" at the Neighborhood Art Show held at The Plains May 13 through 15. The 400 exhibit show was judged by Donald McClelland, curator of Art at the National Collection of Fine Arts of the Smithsonian Institute. Young Chestham studied painting for several years at Maryland Institute in Baltimore and is presently studying with Mrs. Frances Jaeger yt Warrenton.
