Under the law currently in effect, the amount of death gratuity paid is never less than $800 or more than$3,000 depending upon the rank and pay grade of the serviceman. This payment is made to the eligible survivor by the branch of military service to which the serviceman belonged. It is not a Veterans Administration benefit, nor does it have any bearing on eligibility for benefits from the Veterans Administration.
