is the Division of Local Health Services, which covers large areas of the state through its affiliated local health departments -- presently providing these services in 50 counties and 25 cities. The division also provides home health services by contract to two departments not affiliated with the State Health Department system — those of Lynchburg and Alexandria.

Local Instructive Visiting Nursing Associations have been certified to provide the services in Arlington and in three communities also covered by the Division of Local Health Services —Alexandria Richmond and Fairfax. A health department not affiliated with the state system, that of the city of Roanoke, last month received approval by the Social Security Administration to serve as the sixth agency in the State.
