The proposal for the establishment of a Wilderness Area in Shenandoah National Park was a primary topic at the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors meeting held Friday at the courthouse.
Some officials and residents have registered concern over future water supplies and the abandoning of fire trails if the Wilderness Area is establish ed. Allison H. Stevenson and Graham T. Munkrittrick of the Soil Conservation Service were present with maps which indicated prospective dam sites on Broad Hollow Run, Hazel River, Thornton and Covington River tributaries for future water impound' ment. The Board requested four copies of the map with figures relative to water storage acres and amounts. The Board also proposed a resolution be sent to Senator Byrd and Congressmen Spong and Marsh, asking aid in preserving these dam sites and established fire trails. Mrs. M ary Ouaintance issued an invitation to board members to view the summer school program now in progress at Sperryville ETementary School. Friday morn ing is the time scheduled for visitation.
