Convict Escapes
Near Chester Gap
A convict, working with a road gang on Route 610 at Chester Cap in Rappahannock County on Monday, escaped the guard early in the afternoon and had five hours of freedom before being apprehended.
Haywood Lee Thompson, 30, of Washington, D, C. escaped at 2 p.m. and was apprehended at 7 p.m, on Route 522 two miles south of Front Royal by Trooper J. B. Willis and Lt. Leroy Nicholson, guard. He was returned to Camp 11, Culpeper where he was serving a 12 month sentence for petit larceny.
