secondary school teachers who were under contract on October 15, 1966, the high school teachers salaries aver aged $447 more than those for the elementary teachers. The average contract salary for elementary school teachers was $5,976 in 1966-67 compared to $5,545 in 1965-66, arid for secondary school teachers it was $6,423 and $5,939 respectively. Clear sa*id that a possible rea son for this variance was that the high school teachers tend ed to have more advanced college degrees and more experience andweretherefore higher on the salary scales. About 400 persons listed as teaching in “combined” schools were not included in the elementary and secondary averages, Clear noted. Contract salaries for ele mentary principals increased from an average of $8,166 in 1965- 66 to $8,974 in 1966-67 and for elementary assistant principals from $7,131 to *7,841, the report disclosed. The contract salaries for secondary assistant princi pals' during 1966-67 averaged $9,408, compared to $8,732 the previous school year. For the same two years, the average contract salary for
