Lions Club, Jaycees To Purchase School Light
The Rappahannock Jay cee Chapter and the Rappahannock Lions Club will each pay a portion of the costs of two flashing lights to be placed near the entrances to Rappahannock County High School. The Lions Club agreed at their last meeting to share the costs of the lights with the Jaycees. The Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors voted at a special meeting in July to allocate $325 for the installation of the lights which includes ditching, wire, switches, etc. It was incorrectly stated in a prior issue of this newspaper that action had not been completed by the Board.
Written Request Required For Student Deferment
Local Board No. 102, announced today that due to a change in the law, which became effective on July 1, 1967 undergradutate students who desire deferments in Class 11 - S must make a written request for such deferment. A form for this purpose is being prepared and is expected to be available shortly. A letter or card, however, signed by the registrant requesting deferment as a student is accept able.
Receives Doctorate Degree
Joseph Gordon Payne, son of Mrs. Gordon Payne of Madison, was awarded a Doctorate; degree in Mechanical Engi-; neering from Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana! in July. He received his! Bachelor and Master de-j grees from the University of Virginia. He will be associated with Aero Space in Los Angeles, California. Payne is the grandson of Joe D. Johnson of Sperryville and the late Mrs, Johnson.
