Maize Dwarf Mosiac is spread by the corn aphid. Since chemical control of this insect is ineffective, the only ways to control this disease is (1) by eradicating Johnson Grass and (2) planting a corn known to be resistant or tolerant of the Maize Dwarf Mosiac virus. At this time there IS NO CHEMICAL CLEARED for ERADICATING Johnson grass in crop or pasture acreages. Infestation may be prevent ed by: (1) Use of clean crop seed free of Johnson grass; (2) Clean combines, corn pick ers and other farm machinery of all seed and / or rhizomes before moving them from infested to clean fields; (3) Preventing seed formaton, and (4) by not using hay or straw contining Johnson grass. Ensiling will kill germination of most Johnson grass seed but the digestive process of livestock does not. Elimination of scattered clumps, or small patch es, ( non crop land only) can be accomplished by spraying with Dalaperk@ 1 lb. plus
