WASHINGTON, March 12 — Rep. John O. Marsh, Jr., has urged that Congress make plans for the 50th Anniversary of Armistice Day, World War I, which will occur on November 11. Marsh introduced on Monday, March 11, a resolution to establish a special joint Congressional committee to be composed of ten members each from the House and the Senate, divided equally as to party. They would be appoint ed by the Speaker of the House and the Vice President in his capacity as President of the Senate. In a statement, the 7th District Congressman said: “While more recent conflicts have dimmed the memory of World War I, except for veterans who served in it, and Armistice Day has become Veterans Day, honoring those who rallied to the colors in all wars of the United States, it seems appropriate that particular recognition be given to Armistice Day on its 50th anniversary. “Such observance, within the Congress and by veteran and other patriotic organizations and community groups throughout the Nation, could provide opportunity for recollection of our historic commitment to freedom and for recognition of the unfortunate fact of history that freedom must be defended repeatedly, often at great cost. “Additionally, the 50th anniversary of Armistice Day could serve to emphasize our historic dedication to peace — for our own Nation and all peoples."
