Even so it is better to know now than later when these pests are thick under foot. It has been said, “if you have one musk thistle or one curled thistle, you have a serious problem facing you unless immediate action is taken to destroy that plant." Each plant can produce up to 40,000 seed in the second year of its life! And the V.D.A. report shows “light* and “heavy' infestation of both Musk and Curled thistle north of Flint Hill along 522, as well as light infestations east of this town on the Marshall road on or near the Rucker property. Other areas shown to be infested are: between Massie’s Corner and Ben Venue, just south of Ben Venue near Dick Latham’s place. Also, the area around Forest Grove School, Viewtown Store and along 642 northeast to the junction of 648 In addition light infestations were observed near Castleton, at Hope Hill, Woodville and Sperryville. Pictures of these thistles may be seen in this issue of the News. For details, on their control attend the method demonstrations to be held at the Fletcher and Barksdale farms on March 27th.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur O. Smoot, Jr. of Front Royal announce the birth of a daughter Dasha Dawn on Thursday, February 29, 1968 at the Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal. The baby's grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Luther Mills of Front Royal and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur O. Smoot of Flint Hill.
