Highway Dept. Limiting Summer Employment

The State Highway Department said today that its sum-; mer employment program this year will be limited mostly to civil engineering and engineer ing technology students. In recent summers, because of the heavy construction pro gram and, sometimes, a back log of routine office work, the Department has employed a number of other college and high school students.

While the construction program .remains at a high level, it has been slowed by holdbacks in federal funds, and the Department believes its minimum needs this summer can be met largely with engineering students, according to Charles Nelson, personnel officer. He said the decision was being announced now so that other young people contemplating applying for jobs with the Department would have an opportunity to seek employment elsewhere.
