Dear Mrs. Latham: You have brought kudos to your paper with the timely Chicken Little editorial last week. It is a long time since nursery stories have been used for political satire; as they originally were both here and abroad. It requires real insight to prove a serious point in such an apt manner. To me, the fine point of the matter is that it takes a grandmother to nail a grandmother. A trip to the Ben Venue area will establish that dust and noise are byproducts of modern roadbuilding. Blasting is another and quarry or no quarry until Route 211 is completed, the tranquility of the county will be disturbed. It would seem to me that a modern quarry with dust controls would be making a lemonade out of a lemon. In addition to utilizing a natural resource on the spot, thequa^i ry would bring job opportuni-!

I had to seek employment out of the county for the thirty years before my retirement and I speak with authority when I say that the saving in commuting time would be a great boon to the community. I look around and see younger people leaving everyday and wonder who is going to provide services when there are only retired people left. The quarry was in operation in the 1930s to build the existing road and at that time it was called progress. More Power to a lady with courage to stand up to the Chicken Littles.
