Signups for feed grain program total 1,500,359 farms having 76,613,733 acres ot corn and grain sorghum base acreage, according to final signup reports from states received by USDA. Signed farms plan to divert 34,293,030 acres from production of corn and grain sorghum this year. This total represents 49 percent of enrolled base. Number of farms signed and base acres of corn-sorghum on these farms establish new records. Previous record num her of farms signed was 1,470 480 (including barley farms) in 1966. There were 1,308,000 signed up for 1967 program. Total base on signed farms represents 67 percent of national total corn-sorghum base acreage for 1968.
Acreage diversion intended for 1968 also is near-record. The 34.3 million acres of diversion is virtually same tota 1 as record diversion reported for 1965 and 1966 programs, with barley acreage deducted from those signups. Of 76.6 million acresof cornsorghum base acreage on sign ed farms, 58,002,463 acres is corn base and 18,611,270 is sorghum.
