Did you know that a generat i o n-by-generation increase in both height and weight of Americans has been going on over the past half century? According to the Research Service of the Department of Agriculture college women in the 2 0 to 2 4 year age bracket in 1908 averaged only fivefeet-two. But today, from data collected in 1 1 colleges, she averages a height of five-feetfive -- three inches taller.
The spectacular data holds true for men. Back in 1908 those between the age of 20 and 2 4 measured a scant 5’6 or 7 inches. But 1968 shows the national average in that age bracket at 5 feet 10.
