In spite of stifling weather and a seige of crickets, the Amissville Fire Department reported good attendance and proceeds from the annual carnival which concluded Saturday evening.
Parade winners are as follows: best appearing and equipped fire apparatus over 500 gpm, Yorkshire; same, under 500 gpm, Culpeper; best appearing fire company and men, Warren ton; fire company coming longest distance, West Lanham, Md.; oldest fire apparatus, Castleton; best appearing rescue Squad, Yorkshire, second, Warrenton.
Best majorette group, Allentown Road Firettes; second, Loudoun County Mariannettes; best solo majorette, Terri Crow; best civic float, Amissville Ruritan Club; best comic float, Stanley comics; best marching unit, Allentown Road Firettes; best appearing ladies auxiliary, Strasburg; second, Gainesville; special award, Pat Georga.
The grand award, a 68 Rambler American, was awarded L. B. Simmons of Culpeper. Second prize, a portable TV, went to Edward Frazier of Culpeper. The four Savings Bonds, $25 denominations, were given El wood Moore, Marshall; F. P. McWhirt of Falls Church; Miss Betty Moffett, Warrenton and J. E. Hoyle, McLean. A mini-trail Bike was won by Mrs. Maybelle Smoot of Amissville and the stereo given away in connection with the queen contest went to Robert Cooke of Castleton. Other prizes given by the Ladies Auxiliary were: pole lamp, Ruby Cannon, Castleton; transistor radio, Louise Smith, Amfssville; watch necklace, R.
