Safety Patrol for

Holiday Weekend

The Department of Highways’ new Safety-Service Patrol, which assisted some 700 stranded motorists during the Memorial Day and July Fourth weekends, will be on duty again for the Labor Day holiday period. The program, being continued on an experimental basis, was developed to help motorists obtain whatever assistance they need so that they may resume their travels as promptly and safely as possible. Thirteen of the Department’s pickup trucks, bearing signs and designating them as part of the program, will patrol from 4:30 p. m. Friday to 7:30 a.m. Tuesday on the following sections of the interstate system:

All of Interstate 95 and 495, Interstate 66 between 1-495 and Gainesville, Interstate 81 between Dixie Caverns and US 220 at Cloverdale.'and the Interstate 581 spur at Roanoke.

On the two preceding holiday weekends this summer, the most frequent requests from travelers were for tire or motor service, gasoline or wreckeis.
