' Reach New Peak
I | A record number of j sight-restoring comeal transplants has been reported by Old Dominion Eye Bank and Research, Inc. for the fiscal year 1967-68. The eye bank, which is headquartered at 408 North 12th Street in Richmond, operates throughout Eastern Virginia.
A total of 87 corneal transplants were performed during the 12-month period, compared with 70 such operations in the previous year.
R. Kenneth Hudgins, Executive Director of the eye bank, stated that the gratifying increase appears to have been made possible in part by the growing public awareness of the importance of making human tissue available for transplantations on the death of the owner. ^The great amount of publicity given to heart transplantation in recent mpnths, he said, has convinced a great many Americans that the gift of human tissue is a logical, as well as fine, act of charity.
