For Safety Comm.
John T. Hanna, Director of the Virginia Highway Safety Division, announced that an August 28 meeting with, the 11 Highway Safety Commissioners produced recommended guidelines for the establishment and operation of local traffic safety commissions.
The 1968 General Assembly enacted a law requiring all cities and counties to establish such commissions for the formation of highway safety programs which will qualify for financial aid under the Federal Highway Safety Act. There are 96 counties and 37 cities.
The recommendations are:
1. The name of the commissions shall consist of the name of the political subdivision followed by “Highway Safety Commission.” This is to avoid confusion where local safety councils exist and will continue to operate separately from commissions.
