Recently the writer had occasion to visit a local pottery. The potter, in this instance a potteress, tried to explain to me how she would ‘throw’ a piece. Well, I know a woman Will throw almost anything if she is aggravated enough, but, to take a dab of mud and make it come out a thing of delicate beauty is a terminology of which I am wholly unfamiliar. I would think her a master of her trade.
As I viewed her handiwork I thought of the pottery mentioned in Omar Khayam’s Rubaiyat (not that there is any comparison) as
