Marsh Sees Drugs
As First Priority
Representative John O. Marsh, Jr., said in Winchester I’riday night that he felt one of the most urgent and pressing problems confronting Americans today is the growing problem of misuse of drugs, particularly among young people.
“It is urgent that this have highest priority insofar as federal legislation is concerned in the 91st Congress,” the Seventh District Congressman said.
Speaking to the Annual Banquet of the Winchester Volunteer Rescue Squad, Marsh said that the misuse of drugs, particularly marijuana, was a nationwide problem that was not limited to race nor class nor community.
“In fact, the smoking «of marijuana, sometimes called ‘pot’ or ‘grass’, is plaguing middle-class families and is just as likely to be found in suburbia as in the ghetto,” Marsh commented
He added: I “Educators are concerned about it, not only on the I university campus, but also at
I high schools and even, in some
jinstances, in junior high schools.
“It is of mounting concern in the armed services, as evidenced by greater attention to this problem in defense publications and in statements by such civilian leaders as Secretary of the Army
