Parents have one basic motive in employing a sitter - their children’s safety. Their absence from home can be neither enjoyable nor productive unless there is complete confidence in the sitter’s ability to protect their children’s health and happiness in virtually any situation that might arise.
A sitter has certain responsibilities. They should regard baby sitting as a serious job and should attempt to learn as much as possible about understanding and caring for children. They should be able to adapt to different job situations. They should prompt parents to provide written instructions and follow them to the letter. They should encourage advance agreements on business aspects of the job and live up to the agreements made. They should be able to relay messages accurately and never have the children unattended.
