Most people are aware of what their private insurance, company pension plans, etc., will provide because they were participants in preparing their insurance program, or had been acquainted I with this company pension plans through employee handbooks and employee orientation. Many people, however, may not be 'acquainted with the important role of benefits provided to the ! family, children in particular, by j social security.
In the event of the disablement, death, or retirement of a mother I or father, social security will 'provide monthly benefits to unmarried children under 18, or
I between 18 and 22 if they are full-time students, and unmarried j children 18 or over who were 'severely disabled before they reached 18 and who continue to be disabled.
Hiese benefits are sutstantial too. For an example, the father ;of two young children was killed i in an accident. He has had average i earnings of $454 a month covered | by social security. His widow and 'children will receive $354 each month in social security benefits. [By the time the oldest child I reaches 18, this family will have I received more than $55,000 in benefits.
