The young sitter’s parents also have certain responsibilities. They should approve of the family for whom their child is sitting. TTiey (should approve of the days and hours of work, guest privileges while sitting and arrangements for safe return home. The sitter should be encouraged to discuss his or her experience while sitting. ■ Hie parent-employers should be especially aware of their responsibilities. The first responsibility should be ability to select a level-headed, dependable sitter, old enough and capable of doing the job. They should acquaint the sitter with the household, includihg the physical set-up, family members, pets, family customs, etc. The parent-employer needs to be specific in regard to business arrangements and live up to the agreement. Written instructions should be provided on care of , children, where parents and other relatives may be reached and other emergency phone numbers. They should train their children to cooperate with the sitter. Then always provide for the sitter’s safe return home.
Baby sitting is a job to be taken seriously for all concerned, to be learned and practiced and improved on. It is a business arrangement in which the sitter gives the employer definite services and satisfaction in return for a mutally agreeable rate of pay.
