there’s a lot to see in Texas. This is the City in which you can see young ladies cruising the streets in search of young oil tycoons. And, you can daydream over the “His and Her Bathtubs” at Neiman Marcus, a world renown department store. We drove down the street and paused for a moment of silence in front of the building from which President John F. Kennedy was assassinated a few years ago.

Here in Dallas, sometimes referred to as a Texas haven for humidity, we dined in the Ports o’ Call Restaurant in the penthouse at Southland Center. We viewed much of Texas from the 37th floor observation deck of the Sheraton-Dallas Hotel, and were reminded that the simple life does have its excitements.

Our 16-year-old granddaughter, Susan, a very charming, talented ski enthusiast, surprised the younger set by driving them to Six Flags, a small disneyland Thursday. They considered this the highlight of their trip.

The following morning we drove into the town of Fort Worth, Texas. It was here that Maury spent some of his earlier tour with the military at Carswell Air Force Base. To be more specific, it is here he met and married Marilyn Fairbetter.

Saturday we departed Texas. Many Oklahoma highways command striking views.

We were in Kansas Territory by mid-afternoon Monday. Our visit to the Long Branch Saloon, the popular tavern in the television series of “Gunsmoke” was a memorable event. Here in Dodge City, Kansas, we strolled down the streets with several hundred other spectators.
