(Continued from page 1) same as last year, from 12 o’clock noon each day until official sunset each day. That is local time. You may hunt from noon until 7:35 p.m. EDT on September 6. Each day will, of course, be shorter. By Saturday, September 13 sunset will be 7:25 p.m. If you check a Washington, D. C. paper and go by their sunset table you will be safe by 4 or 5 minutes.
Now here is a change. The bag limit this year will be 18 doves. That’s up from 12 of a year ago.
The same as past years but as a reminder: Doves may be taken with shotgun only, no rifles or pistols, and that shotgun must not be capable of holding more than three shells; no hunting over a baited area, grain scattered solely as a result of normal agriculture planting or harvest is not considered baited; an effort must be made to recover all wounded birds; a regular Virginia State or County license is all that is required; get permission now before you hunt.
One more thing on doves: There are 11 Game Commission Wildlife Management areas which allow dove hunting each Wednesday and Saturday. Two near us are Hawfield in Orange County and Weston near Cassanova in Fauquier County.
