This compared favorably with the proportions reported in previous years, when similar studies were made. Only 31.8 percent were in the “over 85,000” brackets in 1966.

The gain, 7.5 percent, topped the United States gain of 4.8 percent and that in the State of Virginia, 6.4 percent.

The report also gives a breakdown showing where the rest of the local population stands.

It lists 23.6 percent of the households in the 85,000 to 88.000 category and another 9.0 percent in the 88,000 to 810,000 bracket. Those with incomes between 83,000 and 85 .000 total 24.0 percent. The remainder is made up of families with incomes above 810,000 or below 83,000.

Because the report takes into account only money income it somewhat understates the real income in farm areas, whei'e the use of home grown products is a valuable consideration.

With inflation rampant throughout the country, many families are finding that they are not getting as much out of their bigger incomes as they expected Tift increased cost of living is eating up a big part of the gain.
