Program Benefits
Conservation-minded citizens, vhether town or country -esidents, will find much to nterest them in the Agricultural Conservation Program (ACP) for L970, according to H. S. Barksdale, Chairman of the Rappahannock County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation (ASC) Committee which administers the program for the county. “Public benefits as well as assistance to farmers were emphasized by Secretary ol Agriculture Clifford M. Hardin when he announced the 197C ACP,” said the ASC Committee Chairman.
Major points of the 1970 ACP demonstrate this concern for the public interest:
Encouragement of enduring conservation practices.
Addition of basic authority foi pollution-abatement practices.
Maintenance of a reserve func for special projects wit! total-community benefits, foi beautification-conservation, anc for p ol 1 u t i on - a ba temenl measures.
Provisions encouraging participation by low-incomi farmers.
In discussing the principa points of the 1970 ACP, Mr Barksdale said that currently about 87 per cent of ACP monej is used for permanem conservation practices. “We hop< to raise this percentage stil higher,” he said.
