In Poster Contest
The Amissville Ruritan Club sponsored a poster contest for students of Rappahannock County Elementary School. Winners of the contest received their awards last Wednesday during a school assembly. Nelson Burner, president of the Ruritan Club, made the presentations. The subjects of the posters were citizenship and patriotism.
Mary Lib Snead, a seventh grade student, placed first in the contest and second prize was shared by two girls for their joint efforts, Pamela O’Brien and Debbie Grimsley. These girls are fourth graders. Carol Atkins, in the third grade placed third. The first prize was $10; second was $5 and third prize was a 3 x 5 foot United States flag. Honorable mention was given two others, Ronald Parker and Ricky Haines, both in the fourth grade.
The overall response was an excellent display of both the children’s appreciation of the subject as well as their artistic talents, said a spokesman for the Ruritan Club. Judges for the show were two members of the Culpeper Art Group, Mrs. Grace Peters and Mrs. Florence Pugh, both1 of whom exhibit in art shows, and Claude Guinn, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Culpeper Historical Society. The posters were evaluated on the development of the theme and secondly on art work. Many of the posters are now on display at Rappahannock Library in Washington.
