The scenario now changes to| Rappahannock County. Last Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs Edward A. Harris of Harris Hollow Road invited a few guests to meet their houseguest- Mr Douglas. Lt. McNear, now retired Colonel McNear, instantly recalled that he had sworn in his fellow-dinner guest, and fetched from his home a copy of tin' original enlistment record on the celebrated actor.
After his induction. Pvt Douglas was sent to Ft. Myer and; then to Camp Robinson, Ark After completing basic training he1 went to a classification buse at) Washington, Pa. and ultimately to the India-Burma war theatre,! where he rose to the rank of' | Major. Col. McNear, who also, served overseas in World War II.I ! was commanding officer,of Vint! 1 Hill before retiring in 19t>8. He and his wife Jean operate a cattle farm here, and Col. McNear also is Zoning Administrator for the County.
Mr. Douglas was an Academy Award winner for “Hud” and has just completed a picture which will be released in the fall. It is an adaptation of “I Never Sang for my Father" by Robert Anderson. He is currently active In television
