Hint Hill VFD
Federal Highway Safety matching funds in the amount of $967.50 have been awarded the Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Co., which also services traffic crashes, for the purchase of radio communications equipment, John T. Hanna, Director of the Virginia Highway Safety Division, announced today.
Hanna said that the Company provides emergency medical services to the north central portion of Rappahannock County, with occasional calls to other portions. At present, he said, the Company does not have equipment to meet State standards. The equipment will include a base station radio and a two-way mobile one, which will be installed on the Company’s ambulance. The latter, Hanna continued, permits ambulance personnel to .advise medical facilities that patients are on the way and as to the nature of their injuries. In turn, facilities can outline en route treatment.
Under the U. S. Highway Safety Act of 1966, states and their political subdivisions are eligible to receive federal funds on a 50-50 matching basis for acceptable projects in the various fields of highway safety promotion. In Virginia, projects are submitted to the Governor through the Highway Safety Division and then forwarded to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for final approval. After approval, funds must be expended by the locality before reimbursement can be made. During the past fiscal year, the State and various of its political subdivisions received a total of $1,492,378 in such funds. Previously, $5,354.87 in such funds were received for the purchase of an ambulance and supplies.
