Aluminum is so durable it will not rust or deteriorate. This property makes it the most valuable material that can be recovered from the waste stream.
Aluminum is different from other solid waste components in that it’s recovery value is ten times greater per pound than any other packaging materials, ranging from $200 to $300 per ton, depending on the extent of the processing. It has a high value on the open market because it is relatively pure, requiring minimal processing before reuse.
