The Virginia Jaycees, led by Senator Harry F. Byrd will take 150.000 jars of apple butter the week starting on March 7th and use them as a formidable weapon against mental retardation according to Franklin D. Simmons, Jaycee state president. The organization’s entire membership of over 8,000 will sell the product door to door for a dollar a jar to raise funds for Camp Virginia Jaycee, a 90-acre facility in Bedford County, being constructed solely for the benefit of mentally retarded children.

It is estimated that more than 2.000 mentally retarded births ; occur annually in the State. These children may live to remain as dependent children, or they may be trained and educated within their limitations to be self sufficient adults. A very important part of any rehabilitation program is the type of recreational program provided by Camp Virginia Jaycee, remarked Karl Schmeidler, President of the Virginia Association for Retarded
