Flint Hill Firemen closed a successful four night carnival Saturday though showers did impede activities somewhat Wednesday evening. However, clear skies prevailed the | remaining nights and each was well attended.
Prizes awarded Saturday night went to the following: the 1971Plymouth to Hoover Foster of Front Royal; $75 to John A. Lee jr., Washington, Va.; $50 to Earl H. Robinson, Front Royal; $25 to Mrs. Mary H. Lea, Washington, Va. and the gym set to Mrs. Louise McCulloch, Falls Church.
Friday night a 700 pound Angus heifer was given Harry L. Davey of Camp Springs, Md. and a $75 gift certificate from Wall’s Jeweler to Debbie Wharton of Woodville. Among the winners in the parade Thursday evening were Tappahannock Fire Department and Rescue Unit, each of which received a prize for coming the longest distance; Yorkshire, Shawnee and Falls Church were first, second and third, respectively, as best appearing fire unit over 500 population; in the same order were The Plains, Marshall and Boyce from towns under 500. Manassas was judged best appearing rescue unit and best ambulance was Cherrydale in first place and DumphriesTriangle, second; Old Tom from Falls Church was oldest equipment traveling under own power; McGaheysville had the best honorary fire chief. First place float was Edinburg with the Huntly Ramblers, second; Tutweiler Brothers displayed the best antique car and Luray’s old fire department was best comic entry; and the Ladies Auxiliary trophy was taken home by McGaheysville with Elkton, second.
