Mrs. Hood Wayland

A funeral service for Virginia Catherine Wayland of Culpeper was held Wednesday at Geest Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. John McKay. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.

Mrs. Wayland, 76, died August 9, 1971 at her residence. She was a native of Rappahannock County, daughter of the late Frank Jolliffe and the late Vernon Lillard Jolliffe. She was the widow of Benjamin Hood Wayland who was sheriff of Culpeper County from 1940 to 1956. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ralph White of Culpeper, Mrs. Dorris Hisey of Shenandoah and Mrs. Glenna Spilman of Culpeper; three grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Wayland was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church at Boston.

Luther M. Settle

Luther Milton Settle of Amissville died Monday, August 9, 1971 in Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal. He was 79. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Flint Hill United Methodist Church by the Rev. Gordon Webner. Interment was in the church cemetery.
