Mr. Settle was born in Rappahannock County, a son of the late Middleton and Martha Ann Horton Settle. He was a member of the Flint Hill United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Anna Lee Settle of Amissville; two sons, James L. Settle of Amissville and William E. Settle of Hume; a daughter, Mrs. Mary E. Frazier of Amissville; a brother, Walter Settle of Front Royal; four sisters, Miss Annie Settle, Mrs. Laura Scroggins, Mrs. Lillie M. Scroggins and Mrs. Jessie Fincham, all of Washington, Va., and six grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Ned Settle, Wade Settle, Carroll Settle, Cleveland Settle, Julian Welch and Bobby Horton.
Mr*. Essie Burke
Mrs. Essie Burke of Boston, Va. died August 9, 1971 in Culpeper Memorial Hospital. She was 55, the wife of Brew Burke jr. who survives her. She was a native of Rappahannock County, the daughter of the late Ernest L. Dodson and the late Ida Dodson, and a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Tom Thornhill and Miss Peggy Burke, both of Boston; a son, Ronald Burke of Annandale; and two grandchildren. Four sisters survive also: Mrs. Flordia Monroe of Middleburg, Mrs. Lee Sisk of Manassas, Mrs. Charles Guiffre and Mrs. James Hamilton both of Silver Spring, Md.; and four brothers, Clyde Dodson of Silver Spring, Md., Erser Dodson, Edward Dodson and Archie Dodson, all of Sperryville.
A funeral service will be held today, Thursday at l p.m. in the Geest Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. John McKay will conduct the service. Interment will be in Etlan Cemetery.
